- I hope everyone had a safe Thanksgiving. We all miss our extended families and friends but this will end before long and we can resume our lives. I have spent most of my at-home time making baby quilts and now have about 25 ready to take to a craft show when the world reopens.
During the last month, I’ve been concentrating on I SPY quilts. It occurred to me that there may be older siblings in the family who would also enjoy a soft cuddly quilt, and an I SPY offers that softness and cuddliness but also the potential for fun games and learning. Here are a couple of the ones I’m currently working on:
And I found this fabric at Hobby Lobby which I thought would make an interesting back for all of the I Spy quilts I’m making. The only problem is that the pattern is continuous, therefore Montana and North Dakota sometimes appears south of Texas! (I’ll leave it to the teachers to straighten out this misunderstanding.)
I decided to try a simpler pattern so I could have a stockpile of I Spy quilts:

Hi Carol, I just read all 10 books in the last month. What a pleasant diversion from the real world. I love Sophie. She’s quite a character! The books are an inspiration to not retire after retiring! Glad you are writing more of them.
So glad you’re enjoying the books. Now there’s a #11 out there, Beneath Missouri Stars and in June the publisher is release #12, the last of the series…Frayed Edges. Thank you for staying in touch and I, too, love Sophie. I will miss her!

Your quilts are beautiful. We are in a deep freeze in MI at the moment so I’ve been enjoying making 3 yd quilts. Fabric Cafe offers beautiful quilt kits and usually get here in 2 days. I’ve been having fun trying different patterns. Check them out. Next I want to make an I spy quilt. Looking forward to your next book.
I’ve had so much fun making the I Spy quilts! And once you get the word out to your quilting friends, the scraps will appear from their stash. I went to Holly Lobby’s sale this week and got many 1/2 yards and have been fussy cutting all week. Thanks for your note, LuAnne.

Hi Carol! Cute, cute, CUTE I Spy quilts. And that backing is so much fun, although I had to giggle about Montana and North Dakota being south of Texas. Yes, my bestie is a first grade teacher so she would be able to aptly explain how that happened. Your new book sounds wonderful. Hi Roseanne, thank you for your comments. I loved making the I Spy and have two more in the works. I’ve got to get back to my baby quilts but these have been such fun to make. I can’t wait for the new book to come out! I love your I spy quilts. I’m making a child one in a herringbone pattern. Am ready and a bit nervous to cut the top now. I think it will be cute.

Looking forward to your new book! Am enamored with your I Spy quilts. I don’t have many novelty prints, but the few I dug out of my stash made great doors for my Shelter in Place houses quilt.

Hi Sister, yes making baby quilts has pulled me through this period which could otherwise have been depressing being alone. But baby quilt fabrics are adorable and always keep me smiling. Hi Kathleen, No don’t hurry. Read them slowly and enjoy these special seniors. I haven’t been writing and am beginning to miss my characters. They have become friends and I’m beginning to think I should be continuing to give them life. It’s just that the pandemic has somehow managed to sap my creative energy. I’m just glad I can quilt. Carol, your quilts are all beautiful! Your books and writing are like a breath of fresh air and we certainly need that right now. Feels like we are wrapped up in your quilts reading your cozy books and love visiting your characters which are old friends now. These seniors are a hoot! I can say that since I’m one too, lol. Also…..I am definitely with you on 2020 – it shouldn’t have to count!
I had a great time with the I Spy quilts. Once my quilting friends heard I was making them, they began showering me with fabric swatches (quilters are such generous people!) and it was such fun. The one with all the corners took some time, but my four-patch one can be totally done in a day.
