I don’t have my borders on yet, but I’m so eager to share this project that I’m going to go ahead and post a preview. This has been such fun to make!
I’m not sure where this design originated. I saw a picture of a similar one and worked out the pattern. And, needless to say, I’m using my Kaffe Fassett collection again. I love the way this quilt appears to be three dimensional.
I’ve ordered Kaffe Fassett’s Lotus Leaf Purple for the border and am considering a plain inner border of turquoise.
It’s long and thin so I’ll use it on my guest bed (twin) and will post a picture once it’s complete and quilted.
Just wanted to show it off. It’s a fun quilt and I’m obviously totally addicted to Kaffe Fassett fabrics.

Interesting pattern! Is the pattern (directions) available anywhere or did you just figure it out on your own? Also, are you writing any more books? I’ve loved your cozy series!!!!
Thank you, Jane. I hope to add to my Quilting Cozy series but right now I’m waiting for the publisher to re-issue the current ones. As you may know, I was self-published but recently signed a contract with C&T Publishing (they publish primarily ‘how to’ quilt books.) They will be publishing the ten-book series. At any rate, I hope to get a #11 out by the end of the year and will let everyone know.
As for the floating quilt, I saw a picture once but didn’t have a pattern. If you examine it closely, you can figure it out. It’s made of 8″ quarters (for a 16″ block in the only two that are complete – others only have 3 quarters and some two quarters. Each quarter is made with a half square triangle and two log-cabin type strips on two sides. Very simple…just a matter of planning. I’ll post the whole quilt once it’s quilted.

It’s definitely on its way to being a “WOW” quilt. Your choice of turquoise inner border and the outer border will make it a sensational quilt. The optical illusion of the floating blocks is very new and fresh. I can’t say that I’ve seen it anywhere before (and I’m a daily quilt blog reader).
Thank you, Robin. I was originally making a throw but decided that it needs to be spread out in order to get the full effect. This quilt was more fun than any I’ve made in a long time! I have no idea where I saw the finished quilt and mine may be very different at this point.
Beautiful and yes very three-dimensional pattern…..love your “possible” border fabric and the colors in it – maybe even a lime-ish green inner plain border (or your turquoise would be pretty too!). Love it.

Thank you, sister. I was also considering the lime green. I’ll need to audition several colors before making a final decision on the inner border, but I love the outer border, the lotus leaf.
